Greetings from Tanzania,

We have arrived safely in Tanzania and are settling in well. This is a special trip for me as my Mom and Aunt were able to join! I would have never guessed that 8 years after the beginnings of Sunrise of Life that both of them would be able to see the centre, and help with the efforts here in Tanzania!

The day after arrival both of them got to work altering some t-shirts with the new sewing machines. A temporary set-up has been made in the centre office while the renovations on the new sewing shop are completed. After the alterations on the t-shirts are completed each child at the centre will get a new t-shirt! This afternoon we hope to travel to the city to visit the drop-in centre and do some street outreach.

The weather in Tanzania has been extremely wet, which is not normal for this time of year. Typically the short rains are supposed to be ending, but due to the extreme amount of rain this year, much of the growth of the maize and gardens have been stunted. This has also delayed the next major renovation of the mess hall, sewing workshop, and kitchen. All these areas are in the main building, which is in need of major repairs. The first step to this project is to replace the metal roof, which is rusted and leaking, but because of the daily rains, it has been impossible for this to be completed. Hopefully, the rains will stop soon so that this can be started.

A recent mapping project has been completed of where the children at Sunrise of Life originated. As you can see in the picture, most of the children were born in the Arusha Region, but some have come from as far as Manyara. This project is important as it shows where resources are best directed to the home visit program.

We hope to update you regularly in the coming weeks, so please check back often! In the meantime enjoy the pictures.

Kind Regards

-Tom
