Greetings Everyone

Hello Everyone,

We hope your summer is progressing well, and that everyone is enjoying the hot weather! Here at Sunrise of Life things are as busy as ever. This summer 4 volunteers will be heading to Tanzania, and the staff and children at the centre welcomed the first one just this past week. Karibu Sana Cameron! We hope you will enjoy your trip to the fullest.

Fundraising efforts this summer are also well under way. We would like to extend an invitation to you for a new and exciting Golf Scramble. HUMANITY HAS NO BOUNDARIES. See information for this event at the end of this blog post.

In the past couple of months Ema and Patrick graduated from Form 6. This is university preparation. Now they await their university placement. The Transition program remains a vital part of the Sunrise of Life project in Tanzania and we are so very happy of the success it is bringing to Sunrise of Life youth!

This past month Tom Kuperus (chair of the North American board), and John Mbatia (chair of the Tanzanian board) met in Winnipeg. This is a rare opportunity for our members. Thank you to our two board chairs for their hard work and dedication! John was in Winnipeg visiting his daughter who goes to University there.

Thanks to a very generous donor who made a one time donation specifically for a water cart the children and staff now can haul more water faster! We are still researching ways in which to fix the water problem at the centre permanently. Unfortunately during the dry months the water pipe to the centre drys up leaving the children and staff no option but to walk about 1 mile up the hill to the nearest running tap.

The drop-in centre remains a busy hub for children still living on the streets to come for support. A new program at the drop-in centre allows parents and guardians from the children to come and visit each other at the drop-in centre. This has led to higher success with community re-integration (the children returning home) as the Sunrise of Life staff are able to mediate and counsel both the parents and the children. Following are some pictures of a recent Street Outreach hosted in partnership with Street to Feat and the Government Social Welfare Officers.

We hope to increase our posting in the future! our apologies for the gap in posts. See below for full information on the golf tournament, and if you would like to join us for a day of fun please email rsvp@sunriseoflife.org.
