Street Picnic
Yesterday, the Sunrise of Life drop in centre welcomed in street kids from the Arusha area for a picnic of pilau, stew and vegetables. Volunteers from Canada and the United States were busy helping the drop in centre staff prepare for the event by washing and chopping vegetables, sorting rice and plating meals. The preparation took most of the morning but in the end enough food was prepared to feed over sixty kids for the afternoon picnic.
During the outreach picnic the SOL staff talked to the kids to gauge their general well being and to see if there were any services the DIC could provide to them. The staff also talked to the older boys, who are leaders of their street groups, to let them know they should be brining in younger and more vulnerable kids to the centre so they can get them off the streets and transitioning into the SOL residential centre. All in all, the picnic was a success and there will be many more to come.
