Wednesday Routines
Life at the Residential Center runs on a smooth routine. This is Ema, and I'll share his typical Wednesday. By 6:30 he is dressed in his uniform, and headed to the kitchen for his morning chai. Walking together with his friends, they head to Maji ya Chai primary school, where he is a bright member of Standard 2! At around 12 the primary students arrive "home", to change out of their uniform and have their school books checked. After lunch (maybe they are rice and beans today?), Ema and the other primaries get help with their homework, or classes in English (while I was there). Oh, but it's Wednesday? Now it's time to wash uniforms! Once this task is complete Ema has some free time, which he usually spends playing football, or in the garden. By now it's 6pm, and the mamas have some quick chores to do, then supper time. After supper all the kids have an hour to do homework. Although Ema is young, he loves to join in and happily gets out his school books for extra practice (although quickly gets sent to bed). That's Emas Wednesday!
