We are still here!

Good-day Everyone,

We hope all our faithful supporters are well, and that life continues on the right path.

In Tanzania things have been going well! Currently the Residential Centre child count is hovering around 50. It is hard to believe that 5 years ago when Sunrise of Life came to fruition there were about 16 children at the centre, there was limited supports for children on the streets, and the outlook for the children at the Residential Centre was very bleak. When we look at today, so much has changed.

Recently Sunrise of Life hosted the 4th Annual Social Evening and Charity Dinner in Lethbridge. Janelle presented about one of her most memorable experiences there. During her time there she spent many precious moments with the children at the centre, and shared some heart to heart conversations with some of them. Patrick told Janelle the story of how things were before Sunrise of Life happened, here is an excerpt of her presentation. The setting of Patricks story is in 2009-2010, one year before Sunrise of Life began its journey.

" It broke my heart to listen as Patrick told me, “We were left with nothing. One by one, each of the 100 children began to leave. They would go back to the streets, or try to find other centers, because they had no help here anymore. It became so bad that one day, there were only ten kids here. And we couldn’t go to school, because we had no school fees. Mama Vumi spent every day looking around the village for food. It was so hard. But every day, Mama Vumi told us that we had to pray for help, and then God would send help. And do you know what I did? I prayed, and I prayed every day for so long. And guess what? One day, God sent help. And God sent Tom to us, and Tom came with money, and he brought us food, and clothes, and money for school fees. And look at where we are at now? It is just amazing, and God is so good. Don’t you think so Janelle?”

Truly looking back we can see Gods hand in everything that Sunrise of Life does. The members, staff and children pray every day that our work may continue. The evening was enjoyed by all, and once again the Sunrise of Life team was overwhelmed by the generosity of all our faithful supporters in Lethbridge! Thank-you so much.

Peace recently sent some pictures of the completed chicken houses! Two houses were built, one for broiler chickens, and another for egg layers. Both houses have two rooms. These were made possible through the unfailing support of the Rotary Club of Edmonton Urban Spirits.

Very soon these houses will be full of chickens, bringing in revenue for the centre and providing the children with a healthy solid diet. The children help with the chicken projects, teaching them not only basic livestock skills, but also giving them a good sense of what proper business techniques can bring in life! Our dear Mama Vumi manages all the projects at the centre. Her passion and love for both the projects and the children brings so much success to the children, and the projects.

Peace, our centre Manager, and Lucy our childcare worker also bring so much passion to the organization in Tanzania. Peace works tirelessly completing necessary reporting for the Governments of Tanzania, and for Sunrise of Life here in Canada while at the same time effectively managing two centres in Tanzania.
Peace and Lucy

Thank-you so much to everyone for your continued support for this amazing cause! Without you this would not be. Please don't forget to spread the word about Sunrise of Life to your friends and family.

Tom will be leading the next travel to Tanzania, and anyone who is interested in applying to volunteer please send an email our way! thomas.kuperus@sunriseoflife.org. He will be there Feb 22- March 29, 2016.

With Love

The Sunrise of Life Team
