Update

Hello Everyone,

First off we would like to welcome Hilda and Robyn to Tanzania. We hope you have the greatest experience in Tanzania!

We would like to thank Janelle for everything she has done for Sunrise of Life in Tanzania. Her commitment and love shown for the children is amazing, and we hope she will be part of the Sol Team for a long time!

In Tanzania things have been busy as usual. With the numbers of children at the Residential Centre up to 40 all the staff have their hands full, but their expertise in dealing with these children is outstanding, and we at Sunrise of Life are so happy for that!

Of the 9 children that joined the centre in January 2 have gone back to the streets. This is not an uncommon occurrence for street children, as often the addictions they were dealing with on the streets pull them back to the streets. Shortly after one of these children ran away from the Residential Centre, he came back to the drop-in centre. For some reason, that made sense to him, he thought it would be better to climb over the back wall of the Drop-in Centre then to knock at the front door. This young boy is struggling with a big decision, to stay at Sunrise of Life, or to stay on the streets. In the end it has to be his decision, but Sunrise of Life makes it very clear to him that when-ever he feels he is ready he can come to the Drop-in Centre.

We would like to extend our gratitude once again to the Real Estate Centre. Several weeks ago the Real Estate Centre held a fundraiser for Sunrise of Life. An outstanding $22,600.00 was raised for Street Children. Asante Sana!

Then we would also like to thank the Government of Alberta for their generous donation to Sunrise of Life this past month. The Government of Alberta has given $9000.00 to Sunrise of Life specifically for the improvement of the Outreach Drop-in Centre in Arusha.

An exciting project development at the centre is a planned expansion for the Chicken House. Funding from the Rotary Club of Edmonton Urban Spirits has dedicated funding for this project. This will allow the centre to become even more sustainable- giving amazing opportunities to the local economy, as well as to many street children.

We hope to have  post from one of the Volunteers at the centre write a post for this blog very soon. Until then have a look at this Documentary about Sunrise of Life which Maria has made amazing.

Kind Regards

Tom Kuperus
