Tanzania 2014

Sunrise of Life-Pre Trip Blog Update 10/6/14

Happy  October to Everyone! We at Sunrise of Life are very excited because our 2014 Tanzania trip is now just two weeks away. This year’s trip will include three SOL members and one new volunteer who will be working on a film project for her Undergrad program back in the Unites States. The overall purpose of this trip is so that members of SOL can meet with new staff members and children to assess all of our new and ongoing projects and implement changes where necessary.

We plan to target three specific areas in the 3 week trip, one of those being the recently opened Outreach Center. Our goal is to meet with the new staff and see it operation first hand, since this will be the first time any of the team from North American will have the opportunity to visit since its opening. We want to make sure that operations are running smoothly, appropriate policies are in place, and most importantly that the center is fulfilling its mission of helping the street children of Arusha.

Secondly, we plan to focus on our sustainability projects. These projects include income generated from the sales of; chickens and chicken eggs, milk from goats and cows, and produce from the gardens. In the past years we have invested heavily in implementing these programs, but the organization has not yet realized the full potential of them. We plan to review each of these programs and work with the Residential Center staff to increase revenues so that SOL can self sustain more of its programs.

Thirdly, As with every trip the Sunrise of Life team makes to Tanzania, we will continue to improve how we serve the needs of the Children. We will work to assess school performance, post secondary school options for children, and transitioning older students from Sunrise of Life to Independent Life. We will also examine closely how the Outreach Center and Residential Center will co-exist to insure that children and staff have the resources necessary to make successful transitions. As part of our continued improvement we will also be working on better serving our staff needs. We will be spending time working with the Tanzania board on how we can address any concerns our staff have in a more efficient manner.

As always we thank you for our support. If you have any questions or wish to help Sunrise of Life please visit our new website at www.sunriseoflife.org. During our trip we will send updates and take plenty of photos to show everyone once we return in November.

Thank You

The Sol Team
