Habari Za Wote (How is everyone doing?)

Hello Everyone!!

We hope you are all well. Things at the centre are going well. After a long phone call with Neema here is what I can give you for an update.

The 5 new children that joined the centre this year from the streets of Usa River and Moshi are doing well, and are enjoying school. We are happy to see that they did not leave the centre, and that they are taking this opportunity seriously in building their futures.

The new chickens have started laying eggs. The chickens are laying an average of 20 eggs a day now, and soon Mama will be taking the eggs to town to sell. As well the cows are producing milk, and we hope to breed one of them again soon, using the bull from Upendo Leprosy Home. The garden is thriving, as it always does at this time of year because of the short rains. We are also very thankful that the Sisters at Upendo Leprosy Home are giving us water to fill the reservoir tanks in the Garden.

Mama Vumi's hand is still not better, and she is going to go see the doctor again on Friday. Please pray for Mama Vumi, that her hand may be healed fast. When I instructed her to rest, and not to work she promptly began explaining to me how effective she was getting at working with only one hand, and that she must work otherwise the children would all go crazy. Taking care of 30+ children on a daily basis is not a small undertaking, and Mama Vumi takes the responsibility very seriously.

We have had reports from the neighbours and the village that they are very happy with the work Sunrise of Life has been doing in the community. Since Sunrise of Life has moved in the children are no longer stealing their crops, and are becoming positive members of the community- this was very encouraging to hear.

Planning for the Street Kid Picnics is well underway and we are hoping to commence these picnics in November. Funding for this project is provided by the John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights via the RBC Royal Bank. In order to effectively carry out this project Sunrise of Life is working together with an organization called Street to Feat. Street to Feat is an organization that is based out of Ontario and is in the growing stages, its objectives are parallel to those of Sunrise Life. Sam, the man who is on the Tanzanian end of that organization will be conducting the picnics and will be reporting to Sunrise of Life. It is the coming together of organizations that will create big and sustainable change in the lives of these children, and Sunrise of Life is more than happy to foster these partnerships.

Thank-you to everyone for your continued support and prayers. Please continue to pray for the Children and Staff of Sunrise of Life in Tanzania, that they may receive the strength and courage to face every new day.

Regards

- The Sol Team
