Mambo!?
Over the past several months those involved with Sunrise of Life have been doing some fundraising for the Street Children of Arusha and the Children of CCF. The garage sale which Renette organised raised $500.00 in total. Thank-you to all who participated!!!
The letter campaign is still ongoing. Thank-you very much to all who have donated. Your generosity is amazing!!! So far the letter campaign has raised about $5500.00.
With the funds raised all activities which were planned for this fall will be able to be carried out. These include providing food and basic needs to the children of CCF. Doing street outreach 3-4 times a week to the current street children of Arusha and starting a transition home for the older residents of CCF. Below is an explanation of the transition home.
The transition home will be a simple set up and will provide a place for the older residents of CCF to stay after they are done form 4 (equivalent to grade 10). After form 4 these older boys are told to leave CCF. This happened for the first time in September of last year. It was soon realized that if something was not done about this these boys would end up back on the streets, the exact place they were taken off of so many years ago. In addition to this in order to obtain steady employment in Tanzania extra education is needed. This additional education can range from vocational colleges to universities. In order for the boys to stay in the transition home they must have a plan for their future which will enable them to one day sustain themselves and they must cover part of the grocery bill each month.
Your next update will be coming from Tanzania as soon Tom, Renette and Rachel will be on their way. Excitement and anticipation is at its peak.
