Hey everyone,

Hope you are all well,

Life at CCF has been great and I am keeping very busy. This is the reason I have not been updating you people lately. We have many things going on at CCF at the moment. It is very rural and the nearest internet is 45 minutes away unless I take a piki piki (motor bike).

A little about the history.

CCF was established in 1994 by a German. In 1998 he passed away and ever since then CCF has slowly fell apart. When I arrived at CCF a couple weeks ago Kalinda, another volunteer was busy trying to put the bits and pieces back together. I was the first volunteer to live at the orphanage in a long while. Now me and Kalinda are working together in an attempt to make the kid's lives more comfortable.

The projects,

We have a number of projects waiting for funding that are ready to happen,

The showers,

The showers for the residents of CCF are in a very sad state. The doors are falling off and it is by no means sanitary. We have funding pending to renovate the showers.

I have succeeded in fixing the water problems. CCF now has running water. :)

The Kitchen,

The Kitchen is another thing that needs some work. When Mamma Vimy cooks it fills up with smoke making it hard to breath. We have funding pending to renovate the kitchen.

The Volunteer House,

There is an existing building on the land of CCF that we have converted into a volunteer house. We now have two rooms each with two bunks. This means CCF can accommodate 8 volunteers. This is good news because with volunteers comes support from many different angles.

The Car,

CCF has a jeep that needs some work in order to get it running properly. We got a mechanic to come look at it today. Hopefully it is not to much money. A car would be very beneficial in order to pick up the monthly food and to bring kids to the hospital as the dalla dallas are very unreliable and packed.

The fund raised money,

I have taken all the residents of CCF to the market in order to purchase shoes pants sweaters and shirts. I have also purchased food for two months.

Home Visits,

Because all the residents of CCF are street children it is important to maintain contact and build rapport with the homes they ran away from. This past week we took seven children to visit their homes and see what the situation was like. The area we went into was very remote and we had to stand on the back of a truck to get there. We found that all of the children came from broken families where one parent is struggling to feed many children. Some of the children did not get fed during their visit. (other than the rice we bought for the kids before the visit). Also one of the regions we visited practiced witch craft and we were warned several times to be careful as we were potential victims. We have been spared.

Anyways I have to go buy some sugar rice flour beans corn and some other stuff. So you may or may not hear from me soon.

Greetings,

Tom

It sounds like you are getting something done. Well, we leave next week and we are ready to pack tonight. Is there anything I should know, take, do, remember? Keep the postings coming, we love to keep track of you.
